BEFORE CALLING US
Start with a pest control company to set traps and seal any entry points into your garage. Once rodent activity has stopped, that’s our cue to come in and handle the cleanup safely.

Why garage rodent cleanup requires a professional

Rodent droppings, urine, and sebum — the oily residue rodents leave on surfaces as scent trails — pose real health risks including Hantavirus, Salmonella, and Leptospirosis. Sweeping or vacuuming dry droppings can aerosolize harmful particles, putting your household at risk. Professional cleanup uses proper PPE, EPA-rated disinfectants, and controlled removal methods. Garages are especially susceptible because they offer shelter, warmth, and access to food — and because items often sit undisturbed for months, giving rodents ample time to nest and contaminate.

In most cases, we are able to provide an estimate by reviewing photos of the impacted area. However, for larger or more complex jobs, an on-site assessment may be necessary to accurately determine the scope of work and cost for feces cleanup and removal.

When submitting photos, please include your name, city, and phone number so we can follow up with any clarifying questions before preparing your estimate.

Photo Tips: Please provide a zoomed-out photo of the entire space, and then close-up pictures so we can determine the scope of work to be done.

Our garage rodent cleanup process

icon number 1

Disinfectant application

We spray the entire garage with an EPA-registered disinfectant before any items are moved — neutralizing airborne pathogens and saturating contaminated surfaces before disturbance.

Disinfectant application

Clear and stage all items Everything in the garage is removed and staged so we can assess contamination, access all surfaces, and sort salvageable from unsalvageable items efficiently.
icon number 3

Remove droppings and clean urine & sebum

Rodent feces are carefully collected and disposed of. Urine trails and sebum residue — which rodents use to navigate and mark territory — are treated and thoroughly wiped down.
icon number 4

Wipe down and return salvageable items

Hard-surface items are decontaminated and returned to your garage. Items that cannot be adequately cleaned are flagged and discussed with you before disposal.

What happens to your belongings?

Not everything in a contaminated garage can be treated the same way. Here’s how we handle different types of items:
CLEANABLE

Hard Surface Items

Plastic storage bins, tools, gym equipment frames, and similar rigid items can be fully decontaminated with EPA-rated disinfectants. These are wiped down and returned to your garage.

TREATED, NOT GUARANTEED

Soft and porous items

Soft luggage, camping gear, and nylon bags can be treated — but EPA-rated disinfectants are only certified effective on hard surfaces. We do our best, but full decontamination cannot be guaranteed for porous materials.

OFTEN UNSALVAGEABLE

Cardboard boxes

Rodents frequently nest or defecate inside cardboard boxes. We’ll go through each box that has been breached to identify anything salvageable — but boxes with interior contamination typically need to be discarded.

PRO TIP — A CLEANUP OPPORTUNITY IN DISGUISE A rodent infestation is an unfortunate but real opportunity to declutter. We can bring a trailer to haul away discarded items. If you have a large volume to remove, renting an on-site dumpster is often more economical and keeps the project moving efficiently.

Mentally Sort before we arrive — it saves time and money

The biggest time cost in any garage cleanup is on-the-fly decision making. Every time work pauses so you can decide whether to keep or toss something, the project slows down.

We strongly recommend to take a mental inventory of what is in your garage before our arrival and making as many keep/discard decisions as possible in advance. The clearer your priorities going in, the faster — and less expensive — the job will be.

How long does rodent dropping cleanup take?

Every garage is different. The three factors that most affect how long a job takes:

  • Volume of items in the garage — more items means more to move, inspect, and treat. A packed two-car garage takes significantly longer than a minimal one.
  • Severity of contamination — a light infestation caught early is far quicker to remediate than one that went unnoticed for months.
  • Presence and location of nesting — nests tucked behind walls, inside cabinetry, or beneath stored items add time to both detection and removal.

FAQs – Rodent Droppings Cleanup in Garages

Is it safe to clean up rodent droppings myself? It’s not recommended. Dry rodent droppings can release harmful particles into the air when disturbed — including Hantavirus, which is serious and sometimes fatal. How soon after pest control can you come in to clean? We recommend waiting until you’re confident rodent activity has fully stopped — typically after your pest control company confirms traps are no longer being triggered and all entry points have been sealed. There’s no fixed waiting period, but cleaning while rodents are still active just means the contamination returns. How do I know if rodents have been nesting in my garage? Common signs include shredded paper, insulation, or fabric tucked into corners or behind stored items, a persistent musty or ammonia-like odor, greasy rub marks along walls and baseboards (sebum trails), and of course visible droppings. If you’re finding droppings in multiple areas, there’s a good chance nesting is present somewhere — often inside boxes, wall voids, or beneath large items that haven’t been moved in a while.
